CIDB
Construction Register System
The Construction Industry Development Board is tasked with regulating and accrediting organisations in the Construction industry who provide services to Local and National Government. Part of this mandate is to ensure the growth of SME organisations.
nVisionIT has built and continues to support the core operating systems used by the CIDB, these include the following:
- The CRS (Construction Register System) which is responsible for managing the application of all construction companies, the grading of these companies, and the approval of these companies.
- This process is governed by applicable regulations and legislation – which nVisionIT analysts where given the task of interpreting and defining this core supporting system. Key system capabilities include:
The ability to:
- Scan and process new and renewal applications
- Capture application information
- Mange an intensive review and approval workflow
- Send out communications through the process
- Report on progress
- Ensure the applicable turnaround times are met by the CIDB
- Receive Applications at provincial offices, and process past capture at head office
- Perform financial Integration
- Perform External Data Validation (CIPRO etc.)
Capturing application process
All applications from Grade 1 to 9 are scanned into the CRS application. The process then follows a number of steps until application is completed successfully or declined.
Dashboard
Reflects where the application is in process, compliance process, all applications over 21 days as well as what types of applications exceed the 21 day turnaround time.

In addition to the CRS system, nVisionIT created the ROP (Register of Projects) and iTender components. These components assist the various government departments to register any projects they are going to run in the construction space.
iTender allows these organisations to define tender requirements and report back on performance. This solution leverages nVisionIT’s capabilities in Enterprise Content Management, Business Process Management and Integration, to deliver an end to end Line of Business system platform to the CIDB that caters for current requirements and forms the basis for future needs within the business.
These CIDB systems are seen as a key enabler in the public sector, specifically given South Africa’s focus on infrastructure spend over the next few years. Deputy President Kgalema Motlante had this to say “The ‘tool’, known as the CIDB project register, will improve visibility of the status of each public infrastructure project under construction.” “National Treasury would conduct infrastructure expenditure monitoring, while attention would be given to adherence to CIDB standards on infrastructure delivery management”.
